I'm 5'10 and curvy, which isn't the best for lolita........
Other than my parents, the worse person who criticizes me about lolita...is me. Theres always something in the back of my head telling me that I'm not cute and small enough to wear it, but that could be the depression talking. IDK, ignore me. XD
Sorry for the rant.
Don't you ever, ever feel that way! You do not have to a size 0 to be cute, in Lolita or any other style! Ladies of all sizes are beautiful. Honestly, look up pictures of plus-sized Lolitas and tell me they aren't beautiful! you know they are! And I just bet you are, too.
And by the way, I am not a size 0 either... so I'm not just saying it!
As for myself... I just discovered Lolita so I haven't had the chance to wear anything in the style yet. My mom has never really cared what I am into, though. She helped me dye my hair all sorts of colors growing up. She's let me wear every style of clothing out there, from the time I was a child. She never cared if I wanted piercings. Let me try new hobbies. Even when I looked awful and mismatched, she didn't care, because I was happy, and I wasn't hurting anyone. She even drove me all over Seattle till we found the replica Trinity (from The Matrix) outfit I had been searching for! My mom is a firm believer in the fact that a parent should pick their battles. Some things just aren't big enough to worry about... and that you can turn your child's experimentation with styles and hobbies as great bonding moments. I wish more parents felt that way.
I don't see how anyone could overreact when I start wearing Lolita. After I shocked everyone, converting to Islam out of the blue 5 years ago, changing from dressing like your average teen to wearing modest clothes and Hijab, and getting married at 18, I don't think I could possibly shock any friends or family now.
I did already tell my husband about Lolita and showed my mom photos. My mom loves it, but like I said, she's loved everything I've ever tried. And I know my hubby'll love it... he loves the look of "anime girls", as he says, so I think he'll get a big kick out of it when I start wearing Lolita. I know my Dad will love it, too. He'll probably get a big smile and call me his little girl, lol. My friends are my biggest concern. I might get teased a lot, but I've always been different, so I'm used to it :-) I'm good at comebacks by now, lol.
