I have just one question, how can you never have drank tea before? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

I like green tea with lemon, and rooibos, but I from the rooibos line I like rooibos honey the best, while in the beginning I didn't even like it at all :p I also like strawberry tea, and rooibos caramel, that's delicicous too! but well, Rooibos has lots of extra flavours. I'm a tea person :p since I don't like coffee. I always want to have a couple sorts of tea in my tea box, because I like to choose, and I want to let other people pick the taste they want.
A tea that I don't like is cinnamon, but that's personal offcourse, I just don't like cinnamon at all xD

And as the others said, smelling the box is a good way to get a bit of knowledge how the tea should taste.

Well anyway, good luck with finding your first tea, there's a lot to choose from! I hope you enjoy ^^

Oh I just found something out...I could never make a really good cup of tea on my own because there always this slightly bitter taste to it at the end. Instructions on teabag cartons usually say let the bag steep for five minutes for one cup of tea, but then a fellow tea lover told me that I only need to let tea leaves or a bag steep for just a few seconds! I use a little tea pot that holds about maybe 4 teacups full of tea and I only let the leaves or bag steep (I move the bag around in the water a bit) for about 10-20 seconds and the tea comes tasting perfectly, no bitterness at all!

Lol! Sorry  I like my tea when it has a light color, when it's to dark the taste is too strong for me.

They also sell tea bags for one cup and for a whole pot here, so maybe you should read the tea bag label for what yours is. But you can use them both for either a cup or a pot, just hang it in for a long time, or for a short time. I also have a little teapot and I always add sugar into that too, tea still in the pot and all xD It keeps me from walking back and forth for getting suger cubes :p

I've found that when you're making tea, it also depends on the type of tea that you're making if it will turn out bitter or not. Example, Bengal tea is a spicy tea. If you leave it in the cup for less than 40 seconds, you don't really get the full flavor. If you leave it in too long then it burns your throat.

I think it also depends on quality of tea. I bought some green tea from the dollar store and it was just gross because it was poor quality; even with a short brew time. I bought a higher quality green tea and it was nice.

I've found that water temperature has influence on the tea as well. Boiling hot water isn't the best but neither is water that is too cool. Personally I like a darker brew when I drink tea. Especially if its a black tea. I let my tea bags seep about.. 45 sec to a minute and a half.

Oh yeah, did anyone else read the article about putting lemon slices in the tea after you put in the sugar? The reason is that the acid in the lemon will desolve the sugar. So.. I experimented. What I found was: it is truely better to wait to put the lemon slice in last, if you use one that is. Also to slide the lemon slice in nicely and to remove it after you've drank the tea for a second glass and put it on the plate. You can reuse the same lemon slice it if you'd like.

Since I'm really a tea lover, that's my topic! ^t^ ^h^

I think everyone has to find out, what is his preferred taste, but there are some things you should try! I don't know if you have the possibility, but I grow herbs for my teas myself. I love being outside caring for my plants. And when you have fresh herbs, you can try a lot of things. I love fresh mint tea (it tastes totally different from the dried one!), valerian root tea, fresh lemon balm tea, lemon verbena tea, tea made of raspberry leaves and marshmallow (not the sweet, but the plant 'Althaea officinalis') and so on..
I just found out, motherwort is great as well.
Another great source for teas is the spice rack! Pepper, ginger, cinnamon, clove and anise are, if used sparingly (!!!), really tasty.

Mallow gives a great, slightly sour taste and a bright red color, dried violet and cornflower have a nice smell and can cause a slightly blueish color. All these things you can grow yourself or find in almost every household. You can add lots of other things, from rose petals to gummibears (my sister really loves this, I don't understand.. 0_0 ), dark chocolate, dried apple, almond paste...
So you can make your very own, unique tea. :DD ^t^

Of course it takes a while until the plants grow and you have to try out, but I had and still have lots of fun doing this. If you want, I can share some recipes (<- spelling?!).

Another important thing about tea is what you put in it to sweeten it or whatever. Sometimes I like my tea without any sugar, especially Green Tea tastes so much better if left unsugared. I drink Black tea with cream and brown rock sugar, that's tradition in germany, people at the coast drink their tea so. It isn't stirred so that the cream creates little clouds and the tea gets sweeter the more you drink off the cup. When I was young I used to love the jingle the rock sugar causes when tea is poured over it.
Some herbal or spice teas blend well with honey (Ginger, Cinnamon, fennel, verbena..), others go better with sugar.

Another great possibility is to give aroma to the sugar. Just put a few lavender flowers, vanilla or lemon peel in a glass of sugar and experience it! It works with honey as well.

As you can see from my description, I don't like fruit tea so much. Don't ask me why, I don't know... >:/

I like Chai Tea (you can get it in tea bag form at the grocery store) and Jasmine tea. But I also like Southern Sweet Tea.

A really great place to go if you don't know much about tea is Teavana. Their website is http://www.teavana.com I think and they have retail stores in the US. They are all trained in tea knowledge and they know impossible amounts of information on all different types of teas and blends. They are very good salespeople there and I end up spending a lot pretty much every time I go. They will sell you tea, tell you how to store it, sell you a special tea maker (they sell only loose leaf tea), and then teach you how to make your new tea. They'll also end up selling you organic raw German sugar (it's so much better than plain white sugar, it has a lighter and more blended taste in tea). They also have free samples :)

Yay teavana!!! I absolutely love that place.

I became so excited the other day when i realized there was a loose-tea/coffee shop right in my town. lol, there goes some paychecks. ^t^

I have a question of my own, if anyone would be so gracious to answer.
I have always been a purist in regards to my tea, with maybe just a little honey. but now that it is so darn cold this winter, I would like some more subsistence to my tea to keep me warm. So I thought: milk tea!

Is there a specific way to prepare milk tea, are there specific blends suggested for this type, or do I just pour some milk into my next cup tonight?

Well, I never drank a lot of tea myself until recently. I quite enjoy chamomille tea as well as Apple Cinnamon tea. Also, if you think the taste is a bit bland, you can add honey and sugar. :) ^t^

I like chamomile and white tea. Also black tea if it is in the morning. I hate fruit infusion type teas (except when it is white tea), and i don't really care for cinnamon or spice teas. I don't drink as much white tea b/c the temperature has to be perfect and you can only step it for a few seconds.

I love stronger flavor, so I leave my tea bag in usually the whole time. especially with chamomile.
